🛠 How to Flash R9 Mini with X-Lite [Quick and Dirty]

This is a quick and dirty how to flash
the R9 Mini or MM using the X-Lite controller. Of course you’ll need
to download and extract the firmware from FrSky onto your SD card. The
R9 Mini and MM does not come with a wiring pigtail and I was not ready to do
any soldering. If you have previously purchased an R-XSR, you may use
the wiring pigtail that was included. I always photograph my wires so that I
may return them to proper layout. Now, not without risk,
you may de-pin your R-XSR’s pigtail and attach the crimped connectors to the
naked header that was included with the R9 receiver. Do so to match the wiring
graphics and video seen here. The black wire is the ground and negative. The red
wire is 5 volt power and positive. The yellow wire is the s.port data and will
cross to the opposite side. Please do this with care. The connector fit should
be snug on to the header pins. Do not deform the connectors with force. Now
before the next step, which will be holding the header firmly onto the R9 receiver, prepare your X-Lite onto the proper mode so there will be less
fumbling around. With your SD card inserted, then your X-Lite powered on,
enter the setup menu by using the long press to the left with the joy-button.
Move once to the right to select the SD card contents and find your firmware.
Here, I’ve used the FCC version of the .FRK file. Next press a short press
inward with a joy-button to pull up the file options and highlight flash s.port,
but do not select it yet. Plug the pigtail into your x-Lite. Now, with
ultimate care, insert your naked header into the R9 receiver making sure to
contact voltage to the proper contact pad. Please take extra care not to
dislodge your connectors. With your fingers hold the header with a bit of
torque to make continuity to the pads. Make sure to be in a comfortable position,
because you will have to hold this position without losing continuity or
else risk bricking your receiver. When you are ready and feel safely firm,
select the flash s.port on your x-Lite. Flashing will take about two minutes and
you will see flashing lights of activity on your receiver. Upon completion, the R9
receiver will power off and it is now updated. I hope I’ve helped you and if so
tell me what you think in the comments below. Please consider subscribing with
